As an incoming student, you are guaranteed housing with us for up to four years based on your eligibility status and admission standing. The options throughout your time at Columbia are varied – singles or suites, halls or brownstones – and depend on class year and availability, but we are confident that you will find a residence hall that you are proud to call home.
We consider an incoming student to be anyone coming to Columbia for the first time, including First-Year Students, Transfer Students, and Visiting Students.
Residence in our buildings begins in early September and continues until mid-May, including all university holiday breaks. Continuing students can also stay throughout the year by registering for summer and interim housing; see the Summer Residents section for more information.
Check In for new students is on Monday, August 29, 2011. Students traveling a great distance to Columbia may receive a special invitation from Columbia Housing to move in a day early on Sunday, August 28, 2011. (Unless you receive a special invitation, or are participating in a special orientation program, you may not move into your room prior to Monday, August 29.)
New students can download the guide "Information For Your Arrival" and visit the Student & Administrative Services New Student website for additional information.
